Duvall, King County
A new chimney cap in Duvall runs $235 to $850, fitted. The spread is about size and shape: a standard cap over one flue tile costs the least, while a custom lid spanning two or three flues, or a full cover for a framed chase, lands higher. Every cap is measured against the actual flue before it is ordered.

Rain is the plain reason. WeatherSpark's model for Duvall has the wet part of the year opening on October 8 and closing on May 8, some seven months, with November on top at roughly 9.5 inches spread over 18 wet days. An open flue takes that water straight down onto the damper or the stove's top plate. The land around town adds its share: about 28 percent of the ground within two miles is tree cover, so needles and leaves travel.
Sixty percent of occupied Duvall homes heat with utility gas and 34.6 percent with electricity, by Census estimate. That leaves a small group, put at 125 households with a margin of 113, that names wood as its main fuel.
On those flues the screen is the part to watch. Smoke from a stove burning day after day coats the mesh until the openings narrow and the draft weakens. The Fire Marshal's September 2026 guidance pairs the cap with a yearly professional cleaning, which is when the mesh gets brushed clear.
Every chimney cap installation we do in Duvall includes:
Smoke coming back into the room, or a smell that won't go? Book the inspection first.
Book nowWind direction matters for how a cap is fastened. From December 11 to February 20, the same model has Duvall's wind coming most often out of the east, a change from the southerly flow of the rest of the cool season. A cap held by friction alone can walk off in a gust. Ours are screwed or clamped, and on a wide crown the multi-flue lid is anchored at each corner.
While a burn ban is in force, Puget Sound Clean Air Agency does not let anyone produce visible smoke, including a household holding an exemption or running a certified stove. Outdoor burning stops entirely, recreational wood and charcoal fires included.
A cap does not change what comes out of the flue, and we do not sell it as a way around the rule. What it does is keep rain off the liner so the fuel and the flue stay dry, and wet flues smoke more. The fuel rule itself, WAC 173-433-120, bars garbage, treated wood, plastic and paint from any firebox.
Tile size, crown width and flue spacing are written down on the roof, because catalog guesses do not fit.
Single cap, multi-flue lid or chase cover: you see the options and the price of each.
Anything nesting or lodged in the opening comes out before it is covered.
Fasteners are tightened, the screen is checked for clearance above the outlet, and the result is photographed.

One made for the stove's pipe or liner diameter, with a screen. A cap also figures in the home heating advice Washington's Fire Marshal published in September 2026.
Mostly the footprint. One standard tile is the low end; several flues under a single custom lid, or a chase cover cut to size, is the high end.
Yes. Washington's residential code expects the masonry top itself to be concrete, metal or stone, pitched so rain drains away, and finished by a drip edge. If the crown under your new cap is cracked, we show you.
