Duvall, King County
For a Duvall house, air duct cleaning has a $525 floor. What lifts the figure: square footage, how many supply and return runs there are, and whether we reach the ducts through a crawl space or an attic. Registers get counted and trunk lines examined before a price is confirmed, so the quote matches the system you actually have.

By Census estimate, six in ten occupied Duvall homes heat mainly with utility gas, and roughly a third with electricity. Much of the housing dates from two building waves: about 46.6 percent of units from the 1980s and 1990s, and 49.2 percent from 2000 onward. Where a house from the first wave has ducted heating, those ducts have been collecting dust for thirty to forty years.
Not many Duvall homes heat primarily with wood: the Census puts it at 4.5 percent, or 125 households, and warns through its margin of error (±113) that the true number could be far smaller or nearly double. The survey counts main fuel only, so a stove used on weekends does not register.
Any regular wood fire puts fine ash into room air each time the stove door opens or the ash pan is emptied. The State Fire Marshal's advice for ashes is a metal container with a tight lid, kept outside. What escapes indoors is drawn into the return ducts with the rest of the household dust, which is a reason to look inside the returns of a home that burns wood.
Every air duct cleaning we do in Duvall includes:
Smoke coming back into the room, or a smell that won't go? Book the inspection first.
Book nowSummer adds a second load. Wildfire season, the regional Clean Air Agency reminds residents, falls in the warm and dry part of the year. Its advice for smoke episodes: HEPA filtration, a MERV-13 filter strapped to a box fan, and a single sealed room kept as the household's clean room. King County's public health department says a smoke plume can degrade air for a few days or for weeks. Fine ash that gets past the filter settles in the returns, and it stays there until someone takes it out.
A Stage 1 ban idles open fireplaces and uncertified wood devices; Stage 2 idles the certified ones and pellet stoves too. Both are called by the regional Clean Air Agency for the whole of King County, Duvall included, and the only way to keep burning is an exemption granted in advance to homes with no other adequate heat.
For everyone else, ban days are furnace days. The forced-air system that sat half-used behind the wood stove suddenly runs around the clock, pushing whatever is in the ducts into every room. Cleaning them before winter means the backup heat is clean heat.
Registers are counted, the furnace is located and access points on the trunk are chosen.
A large collector is connected near the furnace so loosened dust is drawn to one point.
Starting from the farthest register, tools drive debris back to the collector, branch after branch.
Access openings are sealed, registers refitted, and interior photos are sent to you.

If smoke was heavy and the system ran, it is a reasonable time. The governor's August 1, 2026 declaration covered all of Washington: wildfire emergency, plus a burn ban that ran to September 30, so the question is a timely one this fall.
Yes: furnaces, air conditioners and heat pumps appear with a Yes on Duvall's Permit Required list. Cleaning existing ducts is maintenance and involves no permit.
